MARIA'S NURSING JOURNEY

Maria's journey as a nurse began with extensive training in both Italy and England, giving her a strong foundation across multiple specialties. In Italy, she trained in General Medicine, Cardiology, Orthopedics, Urology, and Care Home settings, gaining a broad understanding of patient care across diverse fields. In England, her experience expanded to include Respiratory Care, Intensive Treatment Units, Post-Anesthetic Care, the Operating Room, and Nursing Home environments. This comprehensive training provided her with the versatility needed to adapt to a wide range of healthcare scenarios and gave her the expertise to work across both public and private sectors.

As the first healthcare professional in her family lineage, she often felt frustrated when her loved ones didn’t take her advice seriously. Over time, she came to realize that everyone has their own choices to make and knows themselves best. Beyond the hospital setting, she now views her role as one of respecting the decisions of others and focusing on living her own life. After all, specializing in one area does not equate to complete knowledge of the human body and its various treatments. She reflects that while she may not be particularly religious today, if there is a higher power, it certainly found a way to humble her.

In her career, she has had the privilege of working alongside outstanding teams of Nurses, Doctors, Operating Department Practitioners, Healthcare Assistants, and Holistic Practitioners from around the world. Their dedication and the unique stories of people and healthcare professionals around the world continue to inspire her today.

A major turning point came in 2017 when she was diagnosed with Tuberculosis. She spent three months in isolation and endured six months of antibiotics, alone in a foreign country. Despite being young, she found herself gravely ill, later discovering through a casual conversation with a flatmate that her case had made the news as an Outbreak Incident. This challenging and surreal experience left a profound mark on her mental and physical health, emphasizing the importance of resilience and leading her to a deeper understanding of wellness. She realized that if illness can be contagious, so too can healing.

Just as she was starting to find her footing, the COVID-19 pandemic struck, bringing more isolation and a deepening sense of uncertainty. She grappled with feelings of guilt, but in 2020, she was redeployed to the Intensive Care Unit, facing the overwhelming influx of patients struggling to breathe. She felt the pain of her patients, the exhaustion of her colleagues, and the anxiety of people confined to their homes. Were her loved ones safe? Were they happy? These questions lingered in her mind.

Refusing to remain idle, she dove into research and made a critical decision: to prioritize her own well-being and using her creative talent, she brought to life a video designed to inspire everyone.

The first wealth is health.
